Edinburgh police spotted at Christmas Market amid ongoing incident

Edinburgh police have been spotted at the Christmas Market amid an ongoing incident on Wednesday night.

Up to six officers were spotted at the entrance to the market on Princes Street around 9:30pm after one concerned passer-by heard a disturbance.

Officers can be seen crowding around a police vehicle that is parked on Princes Street next to Waverley Bridge. It is currently unclear what the nature of the incident is or if there are any injuries.

The passer-by said they heard a lot of noise within the market and later saw a heavy police presence outside the event.

Huge queues have recently been pictured outside the Christmas Market as visitors have hit out at the system designed to managed the influx of tourists and residents.

On Tuesday, the council installed anti-terror barriers on Waverley Bridge in the event of major incident following a gas canister explosion at the St Enoch Christmas markets in Glasgow earlier in the week.
