Edinburgh police seize three vehicles during winter spot check on busy road

Police seized three vehicles in a busy part of Edinburgh on Friday night as they continue to carry out winter spot checks.

Officers within the north east team were in Leith as they continue a crack down on drivers with three motorists being hauled over and consequently having their cars seized.

Police say all three drivers had no insurance and as well as losing the keys to their motor, they were issued fixed penalty tickets for six points and fined £300.

Taking to Twitter, they said: "NECPT & Special Constables from NEST were conducting static road checks in Leith tonight. Three vehicles were stopped and seized on Pilrig Street for no insurance; fixed penalty tickets issued for 6 points & £300.

"Roadside checks will continue over the festive period."

Last week, several motorists were caught out as officers set up a spot check zone near Straiton Retail Park on the outskirts of the city. Over 50 unsuspecting drivers were asked to pull over and provide documentation relating to their vehicle.

Sharing their findings, road police said that two vehicles had been prohibited for mechanical defects, as well as another to cars issued tickets due to 'bald tyres.'

One vehicle was also seized at the checkpoint after it was found to have no insurance, as well as the driver being found to have no license.
