Edinburgh police respond to crash involving stolen moped on busy city centre road

Edinburgh police responded to a collision in the capital’s city centre involving a car and a stolen moped.

Officers say that the incident occurred in the early evening hours of Wednesday June 29 and involved a scooter and a car just outside of the Waverley Mall on Princes Street.

A picture taken at the scene appears to show the moped lying on its side in front of a bus stop on the stretch of road opposite the Apple store.

An officer from Police Scotland can be seen inspecting the vehicle and taking down notes on the incident.

The area of the city centre is traditionally busy during rush hour and traffic can be seen tailing back behind the scene of the crash.

A police car can also be seen parked behind the stationary scooter that is lying in the road.

It is understood that officers from Edinburgh are looking into the collision and that enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.15pm on Wednesday, 29 June, 2022, officers in Edinburgh were called to reports of a collision on Princes Street, involving a scooter and a car.

“Enquiries have established that the scooter was stolen and it has since been recovered. Further enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information or potential dashcam footage is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 2452 of 29 June.”
