Police officers in Edinburgh have launched an investigation after JK Rowling was threatened online by a man who said he wanted to kill her with a hammer due to her outspoken opinion on gender reforms.
The incident took place online on January 19 when the author and a Twitter user with different views were arguing online before it escalated.

Speaking in Gaelic, which was translated by some social media users, the man reportedly threatened to murder a politician with a gun at a bar, and Ms Rowling with a hammer.
The social media user posted a voice note in Gaelic which allegedly translated to 'I am going to take out JK Rowling with a big hammer. JK Rowling is very terrible and I hate her so much. Thank you.'
The account and tweets have now been deleted but reportedly the voice notes were sent to Police Scotland first and they are now investigating.
