Edinburgh police launch urgent appeal after man found seriously injured on street

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a man was found seriously injured on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

The 30-year-old man was found around 2.20pm on Albert Street outside a tenement building where a 'stabbing' reportedly took place.

He was raced to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Enquiries have established a group of around six men wearing dark clothing were seen in the area at the time.

Locals said that they saw police cars 'fly' through Easter Road on Tuesday afternoon and a massive police presence was in the area as investigators analysed the scene.

Items were seen being zipped up in evidence bags and taken away as eyewitnesses reported seeing blood.

Albert Street was closed off for around two hours before opening again but the entrance to a flat had been cordoned off and police remained at the scene through the evening.

The police said that there was no wider threat to the public.

Detective Inspector Martin Smith said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact officers.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1853 of 11 July, 2023.

“Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
