Edinburgh police hunt thugs who injured officer after attacking car with bricks

Edinburgh police have launched an appeal to find the youths who injured an officer after they attacked their vehicle with bricks on Bonfire Night.

A huge emergency response had been called to Niddrie on November 5 after a group of around 60 youths descended on the area, with police urging locals to stay in their homes.

Following "numerous calls of reckless behaviour", officers are now investigating an array of incidents, one of which saw a local officer injured.

Speaking in an appeal, Edinburgh Police said that at around 8.40pm, one of their vehicles had been attacked with bricks, resulting in a window being smashed and an officer sustaining a minor cut to their lip.

Chief Inspector Neil Wilson said : “The actions of those responsible could have had much more serious consequences and our investigation is under-way.

“Officers are carrying out door to door-to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify those involved.

“I would appeal to motorists who were in the Niddrie area and who may have dash-cam footage to come forward. You may have captured something that could assist our enquiries.

“I would also appeal to anyone with mobile phone footage of any of the incident to get in touch with Police Scotland as a matter of urgency on 101."
