Edinburgh police go on high speed chase with motorist driving 'wrong way on bypass'

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a driver sped the wrong way up the city city bypass leading police on a car chase after refusing to stop.

The incident took place at around 1.00am on Tuesday October 11 when police officers received reports of a car driving the wrong way on the A720 Edinburgh City bypass and later refused to stop.

Roads policing officers attended and following a pursuit of the blue Vauxhall Astra before deploying tactics to bring the car to a stop on the M9 between Junction 1A and 2.

The M9 was then closed at 2am and reopened shortly after 5.30am.

Three police officers were taken to Forth Valley Hospital to be checked over.

Inspector Stephen Quinn said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the vehicle which failed to stop are ongoing.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this vehicle’s movements or was in the area around the time of the pursuit to contact police."

Adding: “Also, anyone with dash-cam footage which could assist our investigation should get in touch."

Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0115 of 11 October.
