A distraught Edinburgh mum is considering taking her child out of school over reports of repeated bullying.

The incident happened at St Joseph's Primary School in the Saughton area of the city.

Police have now visited the school after numerous calls and will be speaking to individuals involved.

The heartbroken mum is now considering taking her daughter out of school due to the repeated incidents that have left her once bubbly little girl reclusive, scared and quiet.

Speaking Edinburgh Live, "This is the last straw I’m taking her out the school. The headteacher said, 'What’s the point of taking her out the school - what's that gong to do?' I said to give her peace. My husband then asked will that child in question be at school tomorrow and the teacher said 'yes.'

"Then she won’t be back until that little girl is out. Seemly she got sent home after lunch for hitting a staff member not for slapping my daughter in face. She came home went to bed and she didn’t want her tea, she just wanted to sleep. She still sleeping now.

"A member of staff at the school told me this morning I need to get my daughter out of the school as soon as possible. Yesterday I called my MSP."

She continued: "The school liaison officer is non existent, I have had enough I have very elderly in laws and my mother in law with me and she witnessed how upset and traumatised my daughter was. I need help and I’m not getting anything.

"The fact they aren’t doing anything about this little child who is making my child and other children life’s hell! My daughter has already said she had enough of being attacked and hit.

"We as a family is struggling on how to cope with this. My daughter has no help, all the promises of her getting emotional help at school haven't happened and yesterday I found out that my daughter's school work has been affected and she is now having to get additional help as she won’t take part in big groups.

"She was very active now she won’t go to her swimming classes, dances classes go to soft play, or gravity. All she wasn’t to do is stay in the house.

"The whole family have seen my daughter not herself and she has totally changed from her very bubbly talkative little girl into a wee girl that want to stay at home with me & husband and lock herself away. Sorry to go on but I have had enough."

A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: “The school are working closely with the families to support the young people involved.

"The school will continue to do all it can to promote positive behaviour and ensure all the pupils are supported in their relationships and have respect for themselves and others.”

Police received two previous reports of bullying at the school in July and November, 2021, which were looked into and advice was provided to all involved.

A police spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, 2 February officers received a report of bullying at a school in Edinburgh. Enquiries are at an early stage.”
