Edinburgh passengers facing train cancellations after fire breaks out near track

ScotRail have issued a warning to Edinburgh passengers as fire crews battle 'multiple' fires in the area.

Two fire appliances were sent to a farm between Livingston and Bathgate on Saturday, June 17 to tackle a fire.

Due to its close proximity to the railway lines, ScotRail has been forced to cancel train services between Bathgate and Haymarket until 5.30pm.

Taking to social media, ScotRail commented: "We have had reports of line side fires between Bathgate and Livingston North which is affecting our signalling equipment. * We are working closely with emergency services during this time and will keep you updated".

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received report of a fire at a farm near Bathgate and Livingston North Station at 3.18pm on Saturday June 17. Two fire crews, one from Witburn and one from Bathgate are still currently at the scene.

"There are no casualties reported."

Network Rail stated: "Multiple fires next to the track between Bathgate and Haymarket means trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 20 minutes or cancelled.

"Disruption is expected until 5:30pm."
