Edinburgh passenger vanishes on first holiday abroad as family appeals for help

A Scottish traveller from Edinburgh Airport has disappeared after failing to return home from his first holiday abroad.

Robert Campbell, 44, was meant to return to the capital on May 11 after a trip to Lanzarote with his friend, the Scottish Sun reports.

However, friends and family are currently completely unaware of his whereabouts - with police working to establish whether he re-entered the country.

This comes after people close to Robert say they were initially informed that his passport had been used at Edinburgh Airport, though police now say this is unclear.

He was last spotted at Lanzarote airport - but Robert was separated from his friend Paddy when the latter took unwell.

According to Paddy, the pair were last together two hours before the flight, at which point he gave Robert a bag with money and his passport. This is believed to be the most recent time anyone has heard from the Celtic fan.

It is understood that the friends initially planned to return to Scotland on May 16 - but had made the decision to cut their holiday short and return five days earlier.

Police have now confirmed that they are actively searching for Robert’s whereabouts and have officially declared him a missing person.

Robert, from Uddingston, was last seen wearing a black body warmer, as well as ‘Beats’ style headphones and Celtic branded sunglasses. He is believed to be around 5ft 4in tall.

Paddy posted his concern online of his friend’s disappearance, writing: “I don't want to think the worst I always want to keep thinking positive that he's safe wherever he is.”

A pal also appealed for help in finding Robert. They posted: "Please if you're out there or members of any Lanzarote groups please share it.

"Robert is vulnerable and potentially lost in a foreign country this is his first time abroad so he maybe unsure of what he needs to do to get home."

Police Scotland confirmed Robert had been reported missing and said enquires to trace him were ongoing. Anyone who may have information on Robert’s whereabouts can contact the police on 101.
