Smiling Edinburgh parking attendant spotted dishing out fines at Gumball 3000 rally

Hundreds of punters flocked to the city centre of Edinburgh on Saturday as the capital hosted the start of the 24th Gumball 3000 - a nine-day road trip across Europe finishing in Porto Montenegro.

Over the weekend, Edinburgh's George Street was taken over by 100 sports cars as they lined up for the start. But one unlucky driver on Castle Street was given a parking fine by an attendant out monitoring the roads.

The motorist and proud owner of a swish BMW shared the video captioned: "Vip parking is a real thing" before adding in the comments, "£60 for eleven hours parking it was a good offer."

A video shows the parking attendant approaching a swish sports car between Princes Street and George Street and sticking a ticket onto the front windscreen before taking some pictures for evidence.

The parking attendant looks slightly amused as he places the fine down probably because placing a ticket on a super fancy sports car isn't a common occurrence.

Passerbys seen walking past the incident in the video clip are also amused by the bizarre event. The hilarious clip has now amassed thousands of views and hundreds of likes from social media users.

The Gumball 3000 is an annual 3,000-mile international celebrity motor rally, which takes place on public roads and Scotland's capital city is the starting point for 2023.

The name comes from the 1976 movie The Gumball Rally. It was established in 1999 by Maximillion Cooper, with his vision to combine cars, music, fashion and entertainment.

Fans and supporters got a chance to see the supercars and the celebs who made an appearance throughout Saturday before the flag drops on Sunday morning.

A special guest waved the start flag on Sunday, June 11 at 11am on George Street to set drivers off on the first leg of their adventure to London. You can see more information here.
