Edinburgh opens Europe's first Virgin Hotel with roof terrace overlooking castle

The very first Virgin Hotel in Europe has opened in Edinburgh minutes away from the castle.

The luxury hotel brand Virgin Group founded by Richard Branson has opened for a soft launch from June 1 for hotel guests and will be open to the general public from June 14.

Branching out to Europe after success in America the hotel has completed its first phase and will be launching phase two in autumn this year.

The first phase is the opening of 54 chamber rooms and multiple dining and drinking outlets. This includes Commons Club, Virgin Hotels’ flagship restaurant and bar that acts as a modern-day social club, and the Funny Library Coffee Shop.

In the second phase the hotel will open with all 222 chambers and grand chamber suites.

This launch will also include the opening of Greyfriars Hall, a 19th century church that has been beautifully restored and repurposed as a special event venue and a rooftop sanctuary with unobstructed Edinburgh Castle views.

Pictures show the sleek fully furnished rooms with the signature Virgin red items carefully placed throughout.

Rooms are fully kitted with a SMEG fridge, HD TV and even a yoga mat to stay relaxed in your room.

Visto Artwork worked with the company to display art from local artists. Another feature is the fashion photography portrait galleries celebrating women from Scotland’s past and present.
