Edinburgh noodle takeaway come close on BBC Britain's Top Takeaway show

It was getting spicy on Britain's Top Takeaways on Thursday night, and Edinburgh favourites Ikigai Ramen were battling it out on BBC Two to become the best noodle restaurant in the UK.

On the cooking competition programme, five of the nation’s top-rated takeaways roll into Manchester to serve up amazing noodle dishes.

Edinburgh were represented by Ikigai Ramen, owned by Gabriel and Michael, who are excited to see where this television appearance can take them in life.

Gabriel and Michael were feeling nervous before the show, but Michael did add that it was "the calm before the storm."

Ikigai Ramen prepared their Yasai Ramen for their first dish, complete with a vegetable broth and a medley of mushrooms in the mix.

Leah and Liam were not impressed with the stickiness of the noodles, and they were blown away by the flavour of the mushrooms.

The Bailey couple were loving the taste of the vegetable broth, and were feeling the earthy flavour the fungi brought to the dish.

Gabriel and Michael picked up two points from Leah and Liam, the crunchy mushrooms a hit with the plain-flavoured couple.

They also got two points from the Bailey family, leaving them on four to begin with.

The next dish from Ikigai Ramen was a Tantanmen dish, which includes spicy pork, spring onions and those elusive orange eggs.

The Tantanmen split opinions between new judges Nick and Royston and the Spencer family - Nick and Royston weren't too big on the explosive flavours in this dish.

However, the Spencer family were silenced into enjoyment with the dish, as they all loved the way the ingredients all complimented each other.

Sadly, only one point came Ikigai Ramen's way from Nick and Royston, as they didn't enjoy the tastes in the dish.

The Spencer family scored the Edinburgh duo a top score of five points, hitting them up into fourth place with 10 points.

It's all extremely close in the running, who will come out on top?

Next was the super-sized orders, with the Williams family and a double-points order from Spartans Rugby Club.

The Williams family ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen, complete with wood fungus? What an experience for your first Asian flavour!

The Williams family were taken aback with how much they loved the Edinburgh dish, even stating they'd eat the broth on its own, it was that tasty!

The Spartans Rugby Club were also happy with their Tantanmen dish, and ate every last bite after their tough training session.

Sadly, their late resurgence wasn't enough and the Edinburgh restaurant ended in second place with a really respectable 23 points, only one behind the eventual winners Scott and Gary.

And that was the end of this series of Britain's Top Takeaway, but who would you like to see from Edinburgh on the show next?

Leave a comment below naming your favourite restaurant in Edinburgh and you never know, it may well feature on the show!
