Edinburgh named as trendiest Scottish city and ninth in UK by fashion firm

Auld Reekie has come out on top as the trendiest Scottish city - beating rivals Glasgow and Aberdeen to the accolade.

Charles Trywhitt, a fashion retailer, conducted research that considered various elements, including the number of bars, art galleries and museums, for each city.

Edinburgh scored an 82 which meant that it was situated at the top of the Scottish table.

The capital ranked ninth overall in the UK with Glasgow finishing in eighteenth with a score of 76, and Aberdeen in twenty third with 71.

Amazingly, London came in twenty seventh with a score of 68 - their poor performance is believed to come from the lack of vintage shops - something that Edinburgh has plenty of.

Brighton came top, with Newcastle and Huddersfield completing the top 3

It's the second time Edinburgh has done well in one of these lists in recent times, with Leith recently being voted one of the top five 'coolest' places in the world, according to the Daily Record.

Influential travel magazine Time Out named the area fourth in their annual “49 coolest neighbourhoods in the world."

With Leith beating out areas like Chelsea in New York, Silver Lake in LA and Surry Hills in Sydney to claim a place in the top five.

The top 10 trendiest cities in the UK:

1. Brighton (score: 97)

2. Newcastle upon Tyne (91)

3. Huddersfield (89)

4. Derby (88)

5. Bournemouth (85)

6. Belfast (83)

7. Birmingham (83)

8. Cardiff (82)

9. Edinburgh (82)

10. Bolton (82)
