Edinburgh named as location for Coronation's 'Lighting up the Nation' concert

The first locations for the BBC’s Coronation Concert ‘Lighting up the Nation’ on Sunday have been revealed - and Edinburgh is among them.

The 'Lighting up the Nation' live sequence will see the nation unite in celebration, as the United Kingdom comes to life like never before with projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations. The concert feature famous landmarks, areas of natural beauty, and street parties connecting through a beautifully choreographed display of light.

Ten locations around the UK will be included in the event, such as Blackpool, Sheffield, Cardiff, Newcastle and Gateshead, Cornwall, and Belfast. In Edinburgh, a public event will take place in Princes Street Gardens.

These destinations, alongside some surprise locations that will be revealed during the concert, will form the centrepiece of the evening, which will be broadcast live from Windsor Castle across the BBC.

Television and film actor James Nesbitt, who was awarded an OBE for his services to drama and the community in Northern Ireland and is best known for his roles in The Hobbit and Cold Feet, will recite a poem written specifically for the Coronation by Chair of the Royal Society of Literature Daljit Nagra. Alongside this, projections and light displays will illuminate skies across the nation.

Additionally, English singer and songwriter Paloma Faith will perform one of her hit songs during the concert.
