Edinburgh mum 'upset' after finding car smashed up outside Marks and Spencer

An Edinburgh mum was left feeling upset after finding her car smashed up outside a branch of Marks and Spencer.

Michelle Reid is hoping a member of the public, or another driver, will be able to help her trace the culprit who smashed into her front bumper and fled.

She believes the incident, on Saturday March 25, occurred between 2.30pm and 5pm outside a Morningside branch of the luxury supermarket.

There was no note left on the windscreen and she says that this is particularly upsetting as it is the third time her car has been hit in the space of a month and a half.

Michelle is worried that her insurance is now set to skyrocket in the middle of a cost of living crisis.

She has also been forced to borrow her daughter’s car for work and this has meant that her daughter has to walk to work.

On the hit and run, she said: “It happened in Morningside in the Marks and Spencer car park.

“It must have happened between 2.30pm and 5pm. I just came back to my car and most of my bumper was lying on the floor, there was no note or anything.

“I was so upset because this is the third time my car has been hit in a month and a half.

“I reported it to the police and got a crime reference number but I don’t think they can really do much. They are phoning me back tomorrow.

“I need my car to get to work so it’s really not good. I've had to borrow my daughter's car who is now having to walk to work and she is limited to what she can do now as she has no car.

“I’m just totally gutted. I don't understand how people can do something like this and just drive off.

“They had to have heard and seen what they did; it wasn’t just a tiny bump.”

Images show the extensive damage to the front bumper of the Vauxhall Zafira and several dents and scratches can also be seen on the car.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.45pm on Saturday, 25 March, 2023, a report was made to the police regarding a parked car being damaged on Morningside Park, possibly by another vehicle which left the scene.

"Enquiries into the matter are at an early stage.”
