An Edinburgh mum has hit out at the city's school timetable, calling it a "stupid system".
The woman took to parenting forum Mumsnet to vent her frustration with the "long" autumn and winter school term. She stated she felt her children "do very little learning" in December because they are "knackered".
She wrote: "I hate hate hate the long autumn / winter school term. It's too long, the kids are knackered by the end of November, it feels like the kids do very little learning after this.

"We traditionally only get one week plus one in-service day in October which doesn't help. If we had two weeks we would be able to get a proper break.
"Then conversely we are forced to take a week off in Feb when there is f**k all to do and the weather is uniformly bad. I also hate the fact that schools go back when the festival/book festival is on and we can't get to lots of great stuff.
"Am I the only one who feels it is a stupid system?"
They added: "I know everyone wants different things but why a week at Feb, kids only been at school for 4.5 weeks? What are we supposed to do?
"We end up working and putting kids into holiday club... does everyone else in Edinburgh go skiing?"
Before long, the post had received replies from other Mumsnet users. One wrote: "I think I’m used to it as it’s how it was when I was at school. But the term with November is the longest ever. They pointed it out every year at high school.
"There was a survey done on school holidays a couple of years ago. That would have been the time to get it changed."
A second shared: "Our area had a parent poll on what they preferred feb/oct holiday wise. The majority decided 10 days in October and 11 days in February was better than the previous 2 weeks in October and 3 days in February.
"Personally, I find it a bit s**t too."
However, another suggested that the woman was being unreasonable, commenting: "There will always be a section of parents who hate when the holidays are. You could always move."
The City of Edinburgh Council have been approached for comment.
