Edinburgh Morrisons apologises as mum 'forced to change baby on the floor twice'

An Edinburgh mum has told how she was forced to change her baby on the floor of a Morrisons toilet twice in one week due to the changer being cracked.

After noticing the issue the first time she used it on May 17, she said she alerted a member of staff after she was forced to put down her changing mat on the floor.

Returning to the store a week later, the mum was once again in need of the changer. When she went into the bathroom, she was stunned to find it in the same condition with a "huge" crack and said it was unusable.

After being contacted by Edinburgh Live, a spokesperson for the supermarket confirmed the changer has now been fixed and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Speaking anonymously, the 39-year-old, from the Drylaw area, said: "I went into the Ferry Road store on May 17 and my little girl (five months) had a dirty nappy so I went to the baby changing facilities to change her to find it closed.

"I was told by a member of staff that I could use it but not the toilet in there as there had been a problem with the toilets that day. I said that was fine I just needed to change my baby.

"I went in to find that the baby changer that was attached to the wall was broken it had a massive crack down the middle of it. I had to change my baby and had no choice but to put my travel changing mat on the floor and change her there."

The mum was then enraged when she required the use of the baby changer while in the café six days later. After rushing to the toilet, expecting it to be fixed, she saw it in the same condition as it was before she reported it.

She was once again forced to use the floor and added that she is "disgusted" and "extremely upset" after being forced to do so.

The mum continued: "I was back on the store on the 25th and was in the café for a bit. My little one ended up with a dirty nappy again so off I went to change her to find out that the baby changer was still out of order and was still in the same condition as the week before.

"So again I had no choice but to change my baby on her travel changing mat on the floor. I spoke to a cleaner after this and told her I was unhappy about this and that I had been in the week before and it was the same.

"She said that it had been like that for weeks and that it had been reported several times. I said that it was shocking and she told me to go to the customer service desk and to report it as someone might listen to me as a customer more than their own cleaners.

"I done my shopping and on my way out I went to the customer service desk to find there was no one there to take my complaint so I left the store as I had other places to be.

"I find it disgusting that it’s been like that for all this time and not been replaced. For the size of that baby changing room I don’t know why they don’t have a proper baby changer as in like a unit with one on top of it rather than those cheap stupid ones on the wall, they are not great.

"I am extremely upset and angry at this and having to change my baby on the floor is not acceptable when I had no where else to use. Something needs done about this if it hasn’t already."

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "The baby changer has now been fixed and we'd like to apologise for the disruption it caused while it was out of order."
