Edinburgh Met Office yellow weather warning for wind extended as gusts of 65mph expected

The Met Office has extended the yellow warning for wind that will impact Edinburgh and the surrounding areas on Friday.

Southwesterly winds are expected to be very strong throughout the day across the east, with gusts of up to 65 mph probable over high grounds into the afternoon. The gales are expected to cause some travel disruption throughout Friday, with fallen branches and debris on roads and railways possible.

Edinburgh, West Lothian, East Lothian and Midlothian are amongst the areas affected by the forecaster's weather warning.

Despite the strong winds, temperatures in the Edinburgh area are expected to reach 16C with lows of 12C into Friday evening. It means the temperature are well above the average of highs of 9C throughout November.

When is the yellow weather warning in place?

The Met Office warning will be in place from 6am to 3pm on Friday, November 11.

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
