Edinburgh masked man caught trying door handle during night in scary footage

A hooded man has been caught on camera creeping up to an Edinburgh property and trying the handle during the middle of the night.

The frightening footage was caught via a ring doorbell camera and shows the man with a mask on and hood up slowly approach the property at 4:30am via the front drive during darkness and attempt to open the front door.

The man hides his body around a wall as his arm pulls down on the handle, but thankfully the resident had locked the door before going to bed on Thursday night, September 23.

Seemingly unfazed by the front porch light illuminating his face, the crook persists with his attempts to try his luck. Sharing the footage in a local Facebook group, the resident alerted others living in Lochend Gardens of the potential threat from the unknown figure.

They added: "It's something I noticed on the ring doorbell via a notification in the morning. Luckily the door was locked and we didn't have to deal with much worse. I called 101 this morning just to let them know that I have footage of someone trying my door in case they have reports of a burglary nearby.

"My husband's work van was broken into a few years ago but other than that we've had no similar incidents like this."

After being unsuccessful in gaining illegal entry to the property, the man moves on, although it is unclear if he targeted other houses in the area on Thursday evening.
