Edinburgh man 'in distress and lying with sheet over him' at busy shopping park

Shoppers and security raced to the aid of a man 'in distress' at a busy Edinburgh shopping park this afternoon, April 24.

An eye witness reported seeing a male lying on the pavement at Fort Kinnaird, with a foil sheet covering him and looking in 'distress'.

The incident took place on the busy entrance to the shopping area, just opposite the Hotel Chocolat store, with the man lying surrounded by members of the public and security, before appearing to be freely standing up less then an hour later.

Although the exact cause of the incident is unclear, an eye witness at the scene said that there didn't appear to be a collision of any sort and the person appeared to make a recovery and was eventually taken away in an converted ambulance.

The incident occurred around 12:30pm this afternoon, as shoppers descended onto the busy area for their weekend spending spree.

The eye witness said: "There was a man lying on the pavement and when we drove past, he looked quite blue in the face and had a foil sheet over him.

"There was numerous people surrounding him and what looked like security.

"Whilst we were there, there didn't appear to be any police present or a typical ambulance. It looked like the person made a bit of a recovery and was standing up as we were leaving. He was being taken into a small white ambulance."

As the person was on the pavement, cars were still able to drive past the incident, but several people had stopped to offer their assistance.

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for comment on the incident.
