Edinburgh man charged over 'series of thefts' from cars in capital's West End

A man has appeared in court in connection with a series of alleged thefts from vehicles in the west of the capital.

Local residents had shared their frustrations over a number of shattered car windows overnight outside several residential blocks in the area on social media in recent weeks.

Several cars are understood to have been targeted across the weekend between Friday, January 21 and Monday, January 24.

Police arrested and charged a 51-year-old man in connection with the incidents following reports from neighbours.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 27.

Detective Sergeant Ross Nicol said: “We understand the impact and concern that acquisitive crime such as this causes to people.

“I would like to thank members of the public and residents of the West End who assisted my officers with this enquiry."
