Edinburgh M8 drivers warned as section of busy motorway to close for resurfacing

Motorists within Edinburgh and the Lothians are being warned ahead of an overnight closure on the M8 next week.

420 metres of the westbound hard shoulder between Junctions 3A and 4 are set to be resurfaced, with BEAR Scotland carrying out the work.

The works will take place on the night of Wednesday, June 15, with the westbound carriageway being closed from the aforementioned junctions between 20:30 and 06:00.

A signed diversion route will direct westbound traffic from Junction 3A to Junction 4 via the A779, A7066 and A801. This diversion will add approximately 5 minutes and 1.3 miles to affected journeys.

West Lothian drivers are more at risk of being caught up in the diversion at both junctions run between Whitburn and just outside Livingston.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “An overnight carriageway closure is essential for safety, however we will do all we can to complete the works as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience."

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse weather.
