Edinburgh lorry blown off motorway by Storm Corrie as high winds cause chaos

An Edinburgh lorry was blown completely off a busy motorway after Storm Corrie battered the capital on Sunday.

The large HGV was seen to have veered through the barrier on the M90 as it headed southbound towards the city centre from Fife.

Taking place at around 9pm, the large red trailer was pictured stranded on the verge next to the live lines, with the M90 quickly closed by emergency services.

On Monday morning (January 31), the M90 was reopened to traffic, however with the lorry still to be recovered, a number of lanes have been cordoned off and restricted.

Drivers heading southbound on the road near junction 1 and 1A have been warned to expect delays and congestion, with a speed restriction also in place.

It comes as Storm Corrie made an appearance from around 4pm on Sunday afternoon, bringing rain and high winds to communities across Scotland.

ScotRail made the decision to cancel all services from 6pm on Sunday evening, with the ban carrying on through to Monday morning over concerns about the wind speeds.

Edinburgh suffered some damage from both Storm Corrie and Storm Malik, which arrived on Saturday and saw a number of trees fall as well as damage to buildings.
