A concerned Edinburgh resident has expressed their anger at the state of congestion at Fountainbridge in the West of Edinburgh.
Alan, who stays in the local community, has said that he has lost count of the amount of times that his travels have been hampered by street surface works at Viewforth.
In a picture taken yesterday on Thursday 14 April 2022, cars can be seen in a tailback that lasts from Fountainbridge all the way up Viewforth and onto Bruntsfield Place.
He believes that the constant roadworks issue has been exacerbated by the Spaces for People initiative that widened pavements on Viewforth as part of Edinburgh City Council’s Covid response.
His argues the bollards fail allow for there to be a two-lane traffic flow along the street.
To make matters worse, he adds that locals complain at having to contend with a Boroughmuir High School renovation for the past three years.
On the issue, he said: “I’ve lost count the amount of times this has happened but I think this is the third time this year that the Council has been doing works on Viewforth.
“Despite this the street surface never gets any better.
“The picture I’ve shared shows the tail back from Fountainbridge up the full length of Viewforth and onto Bruntsfield Place.
“All day long you can hear horns blaring as the Spaces for People obstacles don't allow for a two-way flow of traffic.
“So when the lights change, vehicles can't move upwards towards Bruntsfield and people can't get access to the adjoining streets.
“I’m not sure what 'nimrod' devised this but it is a complete shambles.
“Plus the locals here have been dealing with the old Boroughmuir High School being renovated for the last 3 plus years, thanks to the Council selling it privately.
“It's still nowhere near finished!!!”
Edinburgh City Council has been contacted for comment.
