Edinburgh Lidl apologises after shopper finds 'disgusting' extra in macaroni pie

An Edinburgh Lidl store has apologised after a customer found a thick hair in her macaroni pies.

Local shopper Nina Galloway told Edinburgh Live said she felt "disgusted" after noticing the black hair inside the packaging of the popular savoury treat.

After purchasing the pies from the Niddrie Mains Road store on Tuesday (February 2), Nina explained she had been unaware of the unwanted strand until a few days later when she grabbed them for lunch.

However, on closer inspection, the hair could clearly be seen sitting on top of one of the pies, instantly putting her off.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, she said: "I had come back from a trip in Manchester and was going to eat them when I noticed they were out of date and then noticed the hair.

"I felt disgusted, and really confused how it had gotten in there and how it had been missed.

"I own a local business called the Rainbow Pet Project with my fiancé so normally just get these for quick lunches so it just made our work day even more tricky."

After contacting Lidl about the issue, the supermarket told Edinburgh Live they have issued Nina with a full refund, and apologised for the incident.

A spokesperson said: "We were very sorry to hear of this matter, as it is never our intention for a customer to be dissatisfied in any way.

"We work very closely with our suppliers to ensure that the products we offer are of the highest possible quality for our customers.

"We were therefore disappointed that our expected high standards have not been met on this occasion.

"Following contact with our customer services team on Tuesday morning, the matter was escalated to our Quality Assurance department and our supplier to be fully investigated. We are in direct contact with the customer and will update them on the final outcome."
