Edinburgh Leisure members warned as 'no-show' and late cancellation fees introduced

Edinburgh Leisure have introduced late cancellation and no show fees for their members today (May 2) to try to curb no-shows for multiple activities.

Golfers will face a £5 fine if they fail to cancel their tee-off time three hours before they are due to play or forget to sign in before hitting their first drive.

Whilst those making bookings for other activities will see a £3 charge if they fail to cancel within three hours of their allotted time.

Edinburgh Leisure hope that the fees will deter people from not showing up or cancelling their activities last minute.

This in turn will mean that there are more slots available for members to take part in a variety of sports or activities.

Edinburgh Leisure say that the ‘No-Show/Late Cancellation’ fee will be applied in the following circumstances:

You don't attend a pre-booked activity that's included as part of your membership

You cancel your booking less than three hours before the start of the activity.

You don't check in for your activity either at the easy-access gates or the reception desk.

To allow time for weather-related cancellations, the fee will not apply to the first three hours of golf tee times each day.

On why they are introducing the new charges, they say on their website: “We hope this will encourage our members to cancel their booking if they know they won't be able to attend, making the space available for other customers and improving everyone's experience with Edinburgh Leisure.”

The £3 fee will relate to all bookable fitness sessions and gym-based activities as well as the NRG Zone whereas £5 will apply for golfers.

Payment will not be taken automatically but members will have to pay their fee through their booking account online or through the app.

If a fee is not paid within seven days, members will be unable to make further bookings for activities until their balance is cleared.

The money from fees however will be going to a good cause, with Edinburgh Leisure adding: “Any No-Show fees we collect aren't taken as extra income.

“Instead, we put them into a designated reserve which supports our charitable Active Communities programmes.

“Our Active Communities team enables over 10,000 people a year who live with physical, mental, social, or financial barriers, to lead active and healthy lives.”
