Where can I watch the Queen's funeral in Edinburgh? Times, locations and events

Preparations are underway in London for the funeral of The Queen at Westminster Abbey tomorrow, Monday September 19, at 11am.

The funeral will be an occasion where people across the globe will be watching, from the Commonwealth to the United States, with many foreign dignitaries expected to attend including US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Emperor Naruhito. Some Edinburgh residents will be making their way down to London in order to be in the city for the historic event.

But many more will remain in the Scottish capital to take in the special service and they may be wondering where is best to watch the funeral. Yesterday Edinburgh Live reported on the screening that will take place at Holyrood Park where a large screen will be erected in front of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The event is non-ticketed and open to all members of the public. The large screen will be showing the BBC’s coverage that will run from 8am until 5pm.

Those in attendance have been told to check the Lothian bus and tram websites as both transports will be running a Sunday service. Toilet facilities will be provided on site but those planning on coming to Holyrood Park have been informed that there will be no seats.

Attendees are therefore advised to bring their own chairs or blankets in order to be comfortable and to dress for the weather. Vue cinemas at Ocean Terminal in Leith and the Omni Centre in the city centre will also be showing the funeral service for free.

However, both companies have said that no food will be sold on site and instead they will hand out bottles of water to those in attendance. The BBC as well as Sky News will be showing coverage of the event live from 8am until 5pm for those wishing to be in the comfort of their own home to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II.

If you are on the go then you will also be able to tune into the coverage on both the BBCiplayer and SkyGo. Let us know where you are planning to watch the service in the comments section below.
