Edinburgh hotel hits out at guest as he 'takes photos of staff' during rant

Edinburgh hotel bosses have hit back after a guest attempted to take pictures of staff during an epic rant.

Double Tree by Hilton, at the airport, on Eastfield Road, received a one-star review from a disgruntled guest after they tried to picture employees on their phone.

But a manager of the hotel responded with little sympathy following the TripAdvisor review.

The reviewer started their review by saying: "We were grossly overcharged for this night's stay. When speaking to the front desk ... they were no help at all. It is quite obvious that they are used to people complaining about this hotel.

"Lot's of excuses, but absolutely no help for any of issue. They are aware of the wrong signs. They do not care. The people at the front desk said the signs have been wrong for years."

"A guy at the front desk who would not give me his name said I should send an email to the Reception desk. Right ... so he could delete it."

The guest then went onto explain about the picture taking incident: "When I raised my camera to take a picture of them and said that I was going to take a picture so that when the manager asked who I spoke to, he would know … this guy flipped out. He came around the desk and said that he would call the police."

After realising their mistake the person stated: "I quickly lowered my phone and did not take a picture since he was such a hot head."

The reviewer finishes by saying: "TERRIBLE DoubleTree hotel. An embarrassment to the Hilton DoubleTree brand."

Th general manager was quick to hit back however, writing: "Thanks for your taking the time to post a review following your stay with us. I have equally received your separate Google review. With a number of changes over time the hotel's signage had been updated and in my five years as General Manager not been a problem. However, it appears that corrections had been been pealed off so I appreciate you highlighting this.

"Naturally, our front desk is staffed 24/7 and I am positive our friendly staff would have been more then happy to help with any directions and absolutely no need for actions such as attempting to take pictures of individual team members against their wishes. The hotel is currently progressing a 30 bedroom extension all of which will feature air conditioning with the others benefitting from natural ventilation as correctly advertised across all channels.

"All Doubletree Hotels receive an annual Quality Audit from Hilton with our Hotel only months ago having received an outstanding pass. All of our rooms have been refurbished along with our restaurant, bar and reception. Most of our guests rate us highly so I am sorry to hear you personally did not enjoy your stay with us."

The DoubleTree Hilton scores a four out of five on Tripadvisor with many positive reviews from guests.

One person said: "We had a really wonderful stay here the night before finally getting away on holiday. The welcome was one of the best I have ever experienced. Friendly, warm, enthusiastic and the staff were infectiously passionate about being open to the public again. Just fantastic to receive that kind of welcome."

With another saying: "We had a very good stay at this hotel for one night. The room was large and had a good desk and chairs. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent -- many choices, good service. We were not charged for parking. We would definitely stay there again."
