Edinburgh holidaymakers warned of banned hand luggage items on budget airlines

As summer creeps around the corner, many Edinburgh holidaymakers will be preparing to pack their belongings to travel abroad this year.

As most airlines charge extra for carrying luggage in the hold, many people will be trying to fit their essentials in a hang luggage bag.

The Liverpool Echo reports that it can be handy for families and sun-seekers to know what they can pack in their carry-on bag.

Those who are frequent flyers tend to give tops for squeezing all you can into the smallest of bags, but there are a number of things banned from bringing onto the aircraft.

As many people will be aware, there are restrictions on the amount of liquids you can take in your hand luggage.

Liquids include foods such as honey, cosmetics such as shampoo or lip gloss, and items such as toothpaste, hair gel and contact lens solution.

Liquids that are in your carry-on bag must not exceed the 100ml limit, and need to be packaged in a single, clear resealable bag, and cannot hold more than a litre in total.

Listed below are all the items that are banned from hand luggage on flights departing from Edinburgh and the rest of the UK:

  • Liquid oxygen
  • Stunning devices
  • Ammunition
  • Guns, firearms and all other devices that discharge projectiles, including replicas
  • Camping stoves
  • Mercury thermometers
  • Explosives including fireworks
