Edinburgh fuel prices compared as the cheapest and most expensive locations updated

With fuel prices very much a popular topic of conversation due to rampant increases at the pump, Edinburgh locals will be shopping around for their cheapest local station.

The prices of both petrol and diesel vary within the city and surrounding areas, with a 20 pence difference between the most expensive and cheapest garages and plenty of locals making their feelings clear on the recent increases.

Shortly after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia started, fuel prices in the city hiked to record-high numbers.

Now, with the increase in the cost of living in the UK, like every other necessity, fuel has also seen a surge in recent months.

Currently, the trend of supermarket-owned garages offering the cheapest fuel prices seems to be sticking, with Sainsbury's and Morrisons amongst those offering the lowest price for petrol and diesel according to PetrolPrices.com.

Within Edinburgh, Sainsbury's at Straiton currently offer the lowest petrol price, at 156.9 pence per litre. Morrisons Granton are second on the long list, offering a price of 157.7 pence per litre.

Morrisons at The Gyle Shopping Centre have priced their petrol at the same rate as Granton, also at 157.7 pence per litre. Sainsbury's Cameron Toll is fourth on the list, with a 0.2 pence difference at 157.9 per litre.

The first non-Sainsbury's and Morrisons store is Asda, with their Leith and Chesser stores offering the same price of 158.7 pence.

Turning to the most expensive, companies Shell and Esso top that specific chart. The most expensive station for petrol in Edinburgh at the moment is Shell's Dreghorn station, offering a price of 169.9 pence per litre, with Esso's Willowbrae Road garage a whole three pence cheaper, even thought it is the second most expensive, at 166.9 pence per litre.

On the diesel front, the difference between petrol is quite sizeable, with some Edinburgh locations nearing the £2 mark.

Thankfully, we're not quite there yet, though, with Sainsbury's and Morrisons continuing to offer the cheapest prices. Morrisons Granton have priced their diesel at 167.7 pence per litre, with Sainsbury's Blackhall 0.2 pence more expensive at 167.9.

Sainsbury's Murrayfield, Longstone and Tesco's Colinton and Corstorphine stores have all priced their diesel at 168.9 pence per litre.

On the other end of the scale, motorists will be questioning the more expensive stations within the city. BP's Calder Road and Barclay Place station's currently have diesel priced at 189.9 pence per litre, a sizeable increase compared to most supermarket-owned locations.

Esso's Biggar Road garage has a diesel price of 186.9 pence per litre, and Shell's Stenhouse Road are two pence cheaper at 184.9 pence.

With prices expected to fluctuate other the coming weeks and months, it's worth checking for your cheapest nearby station, rather than opting for the one you happen to be passing on your way back from work, as there is always a saving to be made somewhere.
