From Friday July 1, all residents in Edinburgh can grab tickets to shows for just £5.
Assembly Festival is offering all locals with an EH postcode a £5 ticket to shows over the opening weekend of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, August 3-7 inclusive. This comes as Assembly celebrates its 40th anniversary line-up while the Edinburgh Festival marks its 75th birthday this year.
Tickets can be purchased online through Assembly Festival’s website and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis for more than 150 of their shows.

After two years of limited festival entertainment, Assembly Festival is back on August 3 with a packed live and in-person programme of over 218 shows, spread across 25 venues and with artists coming from all corners of the world including Japan, Australia, Canada, Finland and South Africa.
The offer is only available online and runs from Friday July 1 at 12pm and ends at midnight on August 7 2022.
Must-see shows to book include:
- Five-star Fringe favourites The Choir of Man (Aug 4-29) featuring chart-topping hits from Adele, Paul Simon, Guns N’ Roses and more.
- The trailblazing drag extravaganza Queenz: The Show With Balls! (Aug 6-28).
- The 2019 Grammy Award winners Soweto Gospel Choir (Aug 4-29)
- Outstanding acrobatics from Quebec’s favourite circus performers FLIP Fabrique (Aug 4-28)
- The Black Blues Brothers (Aug 3-28).
- The musical parody Friendsical (Aug 3-28) based on the 90’s TV hit-series.
- An urban circus from international smash-hit favourite 360 ALLSTARS.
Closer to home we have Scottish comedy from the likes of Susie McCabe who will be playing from August 3-28, plus new work from students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland who are back from August 6 with two musical performances - Godspell and Little Women.
Festival goers will also see the premiere of all three ART (Assembly Roxy Theatre) Award winners from 2020 - Sandcastles (Aug 4-27) presented by Brite Theatre and written by Edinburgh-based Steve McMahon about millennials Hannah and Beth and dealing with grief and growing up with the possibility of losing a friend. From new Scottish based theatre company Pearlfisher and the Byre Theatre in St Andrews, comes a witty story of two women living in a Glasgow tower block, seeking asylum from the UK Home Office on the basis of their sexual orientation.
Lastly, Assembly Festival are also recommending She Wolf which runs from 3rd to the 28th. Written and directed by Edinburgh playwright Isla Cowan, she explores gender, class and surviving in a capitalist world.
