Edinburgh flight U-turns after take-off as three men arrested following a disturbance

A RYANAIR flight was forced to return to Edinburgh after taking off as three men were arrested following a disturbance on board.

Officers were called to Edinburgh Airport on Friday afternoon after being made aware of an incident on board a recently departed Ryanair flight for Lanzarote.

Three men, aged 22, 22, and 21, were arrested and one of the 22-year-olds and the 21-year-old were charged with “a number of offences” in connection with the disturbance.

The other 22-year-old was released without charge.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a disturbance on board a flight which had departed from Edinburgh Airport during the afternoon of Friday, 5 July.

“The aircraft returned to Edinburgh and three men, 22, 22 and 21, were arrested.

“One of the 22-year-olds and the 21-year-old were charged with a number of offences and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The other 22-year-old was released without charge.”

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “This flight from Edinburgh to Lanzarote (5 July) returned to Edinburgh shortly after take-off as 3 passengers became disruptive inflight.

“Crew called ahead for police assistance, who met the aircraft upon return to Edinburgh Airport and removed these disruptive passengers, before the flight continued to Lanzarote.

“We sincerely apologise to passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of these disruptive passengers.”
