An Edinburgh flight bound for the USA has declared a mid air emergency before diverting to Ireland. The United Airlines Flight #UAL37 destined for Newark is currently diverting to Shannon Airport and reported to have now landed safely.
The flight took off from the capital at 9.40 this morning before landing safely at Shannon Airport at around 12.20 and has now been cancelled.

The US bound flight announced the 'general emergency' at 11.30, squawking a 7700 before rerouting to Shannon the nearest airport. Luckily the incident took place before the plane got across to the mid Atlantic.
A spokesperson for United Airlines said: “Our team at Shannon Airport is providing assistance to customers of United flight 37 (Edinburgh-New York/Newark) today which diverted to Shannon Airport to address a technical issue. The aircraft landed safely at 12:13 pm (local time).

"Our maintenance team is currently inspecting the aircraft which is currently scheduled to depart from Shannon for New York/Newark at 2:00 pm (local time) today. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”
A spokesperson for Shannon Group confirmed that a transatlantic passenger jet en route from Edinburgh to Newark, New Jersey in the US, diverted to Shannon Airport today after the crew declared a technical emergency shortly after taking off from Edinburgh Airport.
"Emergency procedures were put in place on the ground at Shannon, with the airport's Fire and Rescue service along with Clare County Council Fire Service, Health Service Executive Ambulances and An Garda Siochana mobilised as part of the emergency activation plan for the airport.
"United Airlines flight UA-37, a Boeing 767-400 (ER) aircraft, landed safely at Shannon at 12.05pm."
