The garages in question house several different companies and is located just off the Water of Leith.

An eye witness captured a video of the dramatic incident, which appears to show several fire engines present and large clouds filling the sky with smoke as darkness fell.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are currently attending a fire on West Bowling Green Street, Edinburgh, which is in a single storey garage containing several vehicles.

"Crews received the call at 7:22pm and currently, four appliances and a height appliance have been called out to attend the blaze which is ongoing.
