Edinburgh fire and ambulance teams race to rescue casualty from water

Emergency services have rushed to the Shore at Leith after as an individual had to be pulled from the water.

It is understood that the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland were all called to attend Sandport Place at around 11.42am on the morning of Friday March 17.

Images shared with Edinburgh Live show several police officers alongside fire crews at the edge of the water.

The SFRS say that they sent two fire appliances after receiving a report of a casualty in the water and that their team was able to pull them to safety.

They were then transferred into the care of paramedics who were able to give them a precautionary check-up.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.42am on Friday, 17 March to reports of a person in the water in Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances and two water rescue teams to the city's Sandport Place, where firefighters assisted one casualty to safety.

"The casualty was thereafter transferred into the care of paramedics and given a precautionary check-up.

"Firefighters left the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe."

Several emergency services vehicles were also seen around the scene of the incident.

A spokesperson for the SAS said: “We received a call at 1144hrs this morning from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, to attend an incident near Sandport Place, the Shore.

“We dispatched an ambulance and the SORT crew to the scene.”

Police Scotland were contacted for comment.
