Edinburgh Film Guild set to launch Autumn/Winter screenings next month

The Edinburgh Film Guild will begin their Autumn/Winter screenings early next month, with weekly screenings for members.

Each Sunday from October 9, films will be shown at 4.30pm and 7.30pm - running until December 11. Housed at the Filmhouse, the Guild has its own small cinema and clubrooms within the building.

Established in 1929, the Edinburgh Film Guild is the oldest continuously running film society in the world. Their 30 seat cinema has a state of the art digital projector and sound system, though organisers state seating is subject to availability.

Full membership costs £75, and provides entry into the full 2022 line-up. A basic membership can be bought for £25, which gives access to five films of your choice.

Membership cards expire at the end of each season, and users must be aged 18 or over. Showing films from 1921 up to modern day, the Guild will be putting on a wide variety of productions.

The first movie on October 9 will be The Cameraman. Released in 1928, the comedy tells the tale of a woman working at MGM studios as she falls in love with a clumsy newsreel cameraman.

Also included in the line-up is a Japanese film from 1957, The Mysterians. It features a n extraterrestrial race who arrive on earth after their planet is destroyed by nuclear war.

On November 13, the Guild is showing a more recent film - Compartment No 6. Released in 2021, it tells of two mismatched travellers who are forced to share a sleeping compartment in Moscow.

The final showing on December 11 will be Blancanieves, a Spanish film which transforms the tale of Snow White into a sweepingly romantic vision of 1920s Spain.
