Edinburgh Festival Theatre reveal panto for 2023 with Grant Stott and Allan Stewart

'Take the second star to the right and head straight on ‘til morning,’ that's the message for Edinburgh’s panto fans eagerly awaiting the title of next year’s spectacular at the Festival Theatre.

After the success of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, the first ‘Edinburgh King’s Panto’ to be staged at the Festival Theatre as the Old Lady of Leven Street awaits redevelopment, Edinburgh Live can exclusively reveal that following this year’s five star smash-hit, the next supersized panto coming to the Nicolson Street theatre will be a swashbuckling affair, The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan.

Once again produced by the world’s biggest pantomime producer, Crossroads Pantomimes, the panto will star the city’s favourite panto stars, Allan Stewart, Grant Stott and Jordan Young.

The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan will open on Saturday, November 25 and run until Sunday, December 31 2023 with Allan again donning the Dame’s frock to play Mrs Smee, while Grant will be the villainous Captain Hook and Jordan the hapless shipmate Smee.

Fiona Gibson, chief executive of Capital Theatres says, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been a huge treat on the bigger Festival stage so we can’t wait to see it transformed into Neverland this coming Christmas for The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan.

“As ever we’re delighted to welcome back Allan, Grant and Jordan – linchpins of our Capital Theatres family and beloved audience favourites who are sure to delight as dame extraordinaire Mrs Smee, the dastardly Captain Hook and Smee.”

The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan will mark the third time JM Barrie’s ‘boy who never grew up’ has appeared in an ‘King’s’ panto having been the title character in 2001 and 2013.

Chief Executive of Crossroads Pantomimes, Michael Harrison says, “Allan, Grant and Jordan are an essential part of so many families’ festive celebrations in Edinburgh and we’re delighted to be announcing their return for Christmas 2023 in our brand-new production.”

He adds, “Planning is already underway for this swashbuckling adventure and we’ll be announcing more cast for the 2023 production later in the spring. In the meantime there is still chance to celebrate panto with us this year, with our sensational production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs continuing to play at the Festival Theatre until Sunday 22 January”.

Allan Stewart, who holds the King’s record for playing Dame more times than any other actor, recently joined his panto co-stars to make a guest appearance in River City, in which Grant plays the popular Sam Spiller and Jordan is gangster Alex Murdoch, a role that won him a Best Scottish Actor award.

This year’s voyage to Neverland also marks Grant’s 23rd consecutive Capital Theatre’s panto. So prepare to fly off to Neverland at the Festival Theatre next Christmas as Peter Pan sets off on a brand-new adventure packed with amazing special effects, stunning sets, beautiful costumes and barrel-loads of laughs.

Tickets for The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan goes on general release on Monday, February 27 with priority booking opening for members of Capital Theatre’s Friends scheme from Tuesday, January 17 to Monday, January 23 2023.
