Edinburgh Festival Fringe: Met Office issues weather update as festival goers flock to city

The iconic Edinburgh Festival Fringe kicks off on Friday August 5 as the city has already seen a surge of visitors flooding in.

The Royal Mile is prepped for the the mass of street performers and tourists while thousands of posters have been plastered across the city as each show battles for audience members.

For those heading for the first day of the festival, the Met Office has issued an update for the weather in Edinburgh on Friday.

If you've got shows booked for the day, you can expect to be doing a bit of walking between venues and the Royal Mile. Luckily, the Met Office report Friday is set to be dry in Edinburgh with 'sunny intervals changing to cloudy by lunchtime' and the sun will peep out from the clouds from 4pm.

Those who want to set off early, temperatures will reach 14C by 10am and reach a maximum of 17C by 4pm with slight westerly winds. The remainder of the weekend is also set to be mostly dry.

Saturday is expected to be cloudy and humid with temperatures reaching 18C with sunny intervals in the morning, while Sunday it's forecasted to be even warmer at 20C with cloudy skies.

This will prepare festival-goers for a sizzling couple of days as Monday and Tuesday of next week is expected to reach 21C and 22C with bright sunshine filling the sky.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe is celebrating its 75th anniversary and is returning with a full programme for the first time since 2020. But the programme hasn't completely moved away from digital shows after their success over the pandemic and people from all over the world can tune into a selections of Fringe shows online.
