Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023: First shows announced including Daniel Sloss and Rhod Gilbert

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has announced the first round of events for its 2023 line-up with nearly 200 shows already confirmed including top acts like Rhod Gilbert, Daniel Sloss and Frank Skinner set to appear.

The first 190 shows of the world's largest arts festival will see everything from cabaret and comedy to theatre and musicals all set to take place across the capital this summer.

Running from August 4-28, tickets for the current line-up for the popular festival are now on sale from edfringe.com, with more set to be announced on Thursday, March 30 and Thursday, May 11.

Iconic Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert is to make his first appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe since 2019, with the comic performing at the Gilded Balloon, as part of his return to the stage later this year, following his stage four cancer diagnosis last summer.

The star will be joined by the likes of Scottish comedians Danny Bhoy, Greg McHugh as Gary: Tank Commander and Daniel Sloss, as well as top English comic and TV presenter Frank Skinner in the line-up.

Other top acts confirmed includes the likes of Sh!t-faced Shakespeare and Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, as well as circus, comedy and cabaret act La Clique and The Black Blues Brothers; ‘five unleashed acrobats’ performing their comedy tribute to the cult movie

Speaking about the launch, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, Shona McCarthy, said: “The whole Fringe community has been working behind the scenes to prepare for the festival for months now, but having actual shows to browse and book makes the build up to this year’s Fringe that bit more tangible.

“The Fringe is made possible due to a cast of thousands – artists, audiences, venue staff, industry, media, sponsors, partners and local businesses. It’s never too early to start planning a trip to the Fringe; booking early is also a brilliant way to support artists, to let them know there’s already an audience waiting for their show to come to Edinburgh.

“We’ll be announcing a lot more over the coming months, including details of our much-anticipated new app, so stay tuned!”
