The closing fireworks for the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) will not be happening this year, after 40 years of the tradition.
Organisers have said the event will not run as there is no major sponsor, with the EIF looking into large-scale events to replace in future. The fireworks have been missing from the city for several years, after being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid restrictions.
An EIF spokeswoman told the BBC : "The International Festival won't be staging the fireworks this year.

"The fireworks have always been dependent on a major sponsor, and we do not have one to support the event this year.
"We will be speaking with the other August festivals and the City of Edinburgh Council to see what form a large-scale closing event might take in the future, that would replace the fireworks."
In previous years, crowds watch the event from Princes Street and other points in the city while some purchase tickets to watch from Princes Street Gardens. They're usually accompanied by a live performance from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, which is also aired on the radio.
