The distressed family, who wish to remain anonymous, told Edinburgh Live: "Today at 4.30pm my parents were walking our dog down to Silverknowes beach and were verbally and physically attacked by this group of teenagers.
"More than 20 of them, girls and boys, were vandalising the road bollards. The boys then started to call my parents ‘P***’ and ‘refugees’ and threw the bollards from the road at them and at my dog.
"Five boys circled my dad then threw the bollard at my dad’s head and kicked my dad before he even had time to react.
