The Edinburgh Tyre Extinguishers say they have 'disarmed' 35 vehicles in one of the city's most affluent neighbourhoods overnight.
In the latest action, the group of climate activists claimed to have targeted SUVs in the Marchmont and Meadows neighbourhoods to make a statement about the climate emergency.
"Last night, 35 SUVs were disarmed in the posh Marchmont/Meadows areas of Edinburgh. This area is home to some of the richest people in Scotland and well-served by public transport. The residents there don’t need to drive tanks around the city streets, endangering other road users, polluting the air and wrecking the climate," a press release from the group said.
It is unknown how many people are involved with the Tyre Extinguishers in Edinburgh, but the group goes into plush neighbourhoods under the cover of darkness and deflates the air from SUV tyres. Then, pamphlets are placed on the windscreens.

"SUVs are a climate disaster; SUVs cause air pollution; SUVs are dangerous; SUVs are unnecessary," the group said.
"The Tyre Extinguishers want to see bans on SUVs in urban areas, pollution levies to tax SUVs out of existence, and massive investment in free, comprehensive public transport. But until politicians make this a reality, Tyre Extinguishers action will continue."
The Tyre Extinguished have held at least ten organised tyre strikes in Edinburgh and claim they have 'disarmed' more than 10,000 SUVs worldwide.
The group specifically targets SUVs like Range Rovers because they claim the vehicles are heavier, bigger and more polluting than necessary.
"We want to make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4x4 in the world’s urban areas. We do this by deflating the tyres of these massive, unnecessary vehicles, causing inconvenience and expense for their owners," the group said in a statement online.
