They added: "Police, fire brigade, coastguard and paramedics were on site at Newhaven Harbour near the lighthouse at Brawers Fayre after a body was found around 0715 this morning."
Other locals in the area also reported the area being blocked off for the time being, as Police Scotland confirmed the recovery of the body, but there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Hours after the alarm was raised, a source said: "Currently all that remains is a handful of uniformed and plain clothes Police with a privacy tent. Cruise passengers still arriving as normal so lovely welcoming view for tourists!"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the body of a man found near Newhaven Place in Edinburgh shortly after 7am on Tuesday, 5 July.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
