There are reportedly no casualties so far but the incident is ongoing and several fire engines remain at the scene. Images show the emergency services at the busy junction on Gorgie Road with police vans and a number of fire engines parked outside.

The full circumstances behind the incident are currently unknown. One local resident told Edinburgh Live: "Something big is happening at the corner of Westfield road just now and Gorgie Road. Police are directing traffic, firemen had a building plan on a board, they did go in with oxygen tanks but we don't know what it is going on.

"They also have their equipment carefully laid out on yellow tarp stuff, could it be a leak I'm not sure but they're being careful whatever it is, I don't think anyone is hurt."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Edinburgh Live that three engines were in attendance after they received reports of smoke in a stairwell on Gorgie Road shortly after 12.00pm. There are no casualties so far and the incident is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at a premises on Gorgie Road, Edinburgh, around 12.15pm on Thursday, 15 September, 2022.

“Officers are in attendance to assist with traffic management and the road is currently closed between Robertson Avenue and Westfield Road.”
