Edinburgh driver 'spins' McLaren supercar on busy city bypass

Bemused drivers spotted a stunning supercar facing the wrong way on the city bypass after travel warnings hit the capital.

The flashy vehicle appears to be a McLaren 540c, which can set speed merchants back more than £100,000.

With plummeting temperatures causing Edinburgh city bypass around Edinburgh, many people are having to take extra precautions as they make their way around the city.

Drivers on the abandoned the vehicle were met with a surprising sight as the supercar - top speed of 199mph - lay facing onward traffic on the busy road’s hard shoulder.

The jet black car can be seen with its headlights still beaming on a grey winter’s day, suggesting the owner had not abandoned the vehicle.

A traffic management van, which are often situated around the capital’s major road, had also parked up near the stricken motor.

Snow can be seen lacing the side of the roads next to the pricey motor, with Edinburgh road users having already been urged to take care in light of the ongoing winter weather.

A yellow weather warning from the Met Office was in place in the city until late on Sunday evening, with snow and ice expected to cause some disruption for travellers.

However, many capital residents woke up to more snow early on Sunday mornings, with temperatures dropping below -7 in some areas of Edinburgh and the Lothians.

With the winter chill showing no sign of melting away any time soon, drivers have been reminded of how to keep themselves safe on risky roads.

Louise Thomas, car insurance expert at Confused.com, said: “With Christmas around the corner, it's likely many will be travelling to finish up some shopping, or visit their friends and family. Or simply just be finishing up at work!

Here are some of our tips to prepare your car and journey for setting off in these conditions: Make sure your windows, mirrors, lights and roof are all clear of snow. Check your tyres to ensure they have enough tread to grip in the ice and snow. Plan to stick to major roads where possible as they’re more likely to be gritted

“Allowing yourself extra time to drive with care and making sure your car is prepared for the icy road conditions should help to keep yourself and others safe on the road.”
