Edinburgh driver identified after horror hit-and-run left man fighting for his life

Police have identified a driver after a horror hit and run crash left a man fighting for his life.

We told how emergency services raced to Broomhouse Drive in Edinburgh after the alarm was raised at around 6.30pm on Thursday, April 14.

A 40-year-old man had been badly injured after being involved in a collision with a vehicle.

On Friday, police revealed that the motor did not stop at the scene and a manhunt was underway to trace the driver.

Cops confirmed this morning that the driver has now been traced.

The injured male remains in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where his condition is described as "critical but stable".

Officers say their enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and they are continuing to appeal for information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "About 6.30pm on Thursday, April 14, 2022, officers attended a report of a 40-year-old male pedestrian seriously injured on Broomhouse Drive in Edinburgh after he was involved in a collision with a vehicle.

"The male was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where his condition is described as critical but stable.

"The vehicle involved has since been traced and the driver identified.

"Enquiries are ongoing and any information should be passed to police by calling 101, quoting incident number 2846 of April 14, 2022."

Police are also investigating another hit-and-run in Edinburgh, which took place on at Westside Plaza, in the Wester Hailes area, at around 9.30am on Thursday, April 14.

The 45-year-old is currently in a serious condition in The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Police say the incident is being treated as attempted murder.

The vehicle involved has been found by officers but cops are hunting those involved with the incident.

The two incidents are not believed to be linked.

Anyone with information including dashcam footage is being urged to come forward.
