Edinburgh dogs that are looking for their forever home this June

There's nothing quite like coming home and being greeted by your furry four legged companion.

Whether you have one dog or multiple, we can't blame you for wanting to sprint home from a long day out and just cuddle up on the sofa with them.

But for some, they aren't so lucky and don't have a pet waiting for them.

Many people in the city will be aware of the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home which has been part of the fabric of the city since 1883.

Working in partnership with local authorities and police services, the home has helped many lost, stray and abandoned pets from all corners of Edinburgh and the Lothians who want and deserve a loving home.

And with it now being Pet Appreciation Week, what better time than to start researching?

So what dogs are needing their forever home in Edinburgh?

Biscuit

Age: 3 years and eight months (approx)

Breed: Cross Collie/Staffie

Biscuit is after a home with a garden as well as an active and experienced owner - away from the city centre. (Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.)

This gorgeous girl is nervous and wary of strangers however despite this, Biscuit is said to have "super high energy" and loves her own space.

She is ball obsessed and "loves collecting toys from our paddock and bringing them back to her kennel" so she can continue to play with them there.

When she has settled into her new home and gained confidence, Biscuit may like to do an activity like Canicross or Flyball to keep her mind and body active.

Because of her nature, she would prefer a home with a private garden so she can play outside but she also enjoys visits to the local park as well as a freedom field so she can enjoy running off some of her energy.

Anyone looking to take her home will want to have experience of resource guarding, who preferably has had a nervous dog in the past. She needs an adult only home, with no visiting children under the age of 16 and must also be the only pet.

Butch

Age: 1 year

Breed: Cross Labrador

Butch is after a loving home with a garden as well as an active owner. (Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.)

If you're fit and active and are willing to train your pup, Butch could be for you.

This one year old is looking to live in a home with people over the age of 14 and must be the only pet in the house.

He loves attention and needs to have company all the times until his new human can help him to spend time on his own.

Butch is a very happy and friendly boy who can be very boisterous and according to the home "has absolutely no idea of his size."

Having a garden to run around will help him as he is a very energetic soul will need a lot of exercise every day as well as plenty of mental enrichment to help tire him out.

Layla

Age: 1 year seven months (approx)

Breed: German Shepherd

Layla is after a quiet home with a garden, an experienced owner as well as a life away from the city centre. (Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.)

Layla is looking for an experienced owner who knows her breed and must live with children who are dog savvy around 12-years-old and over.

Just like others, she will need to be the only pet in her home as well as a private garden to run around.

At first she can be shy and therefore needs to work on her socialisation skills however once she settles, she also likes company and is very loving and affectionate with the humans she trusts.

If you enjoy long and quiet walks as well as a life away from the city, it could be a match made in heaven.
