An Edinburgh flight has declared a mid-air emergency after taking off for the US on Tuesday afternoon. The Delta Air Lines plane was forced to make an emergency landing just a short time after taking off from Edinburgh Airport.
Issuing a 7700 squawk code to alert air traffic officials of the issue on board, the aircraft was quickly re-diverted from its original destination of Boston.
Carrying a full plane of passengers, the Delta flight was thankfully able to make an emergency landing in Shannon, Ireland, where a 'mechanical issue' was found.
