Edinburgh Deliveroo driver filmed on wrong side of road as police investigate

A horrified Edinburgh motorist has shared a hair raising video that appears to show a Deliveroo driver on the wrong side of Ferry Road.

The driver that captured the video, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the Deliveroo motorcyclist had been tailgating them for some time before driving out onto the other side of the road.

In the footage shared exclusively with Edinburgh Live, the Deliveroo driver can be seen making the decision to overtake the slow moving vehicles and travelled onto a lane of oncoming traffic whilst flying past an island.

The incident is understood to have taken place at around 7:44pm on Wednesday July 20 and was immediately reported to Police Scotland and their employers.

The video appears to have been taken outside of the Morrisons on Ferry Road and adjacent to the private school sports fields.

Thankfully no one was injured during the act of dangerous driving but those witnessing the event were understandably angered by the actions.

Our source said: “The motorcyclist became fed up of sitting in traffic and had tailgated me for a while.

“Sadly they took inappropriate action and this put other road users at risk.

“I have contacted Deliveroo to make a complaint and Police Scotland have said that they will meet on Sunday so that I can hand over the footage.”

A Deliveroo Spokesperson said: “The safety of our riders and other road users is a priority.

"When riders onboard with us, they are required to complete a programme of road safety guidance and we regularly engage with riders about how to keep safe on the road, and remind them that they must follow the rules of the road at all times.

"We have a zero tolerance policy for any rider found to have broken the law while riding with us."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 11pm on Wednesday, 20 July, we received a report of dangerous driving on Ferry Road, Edinburgh earlier that evening.

“Enquiries are at an early stage.”
